Headmaster Ambrose hints at Wizard 101 expansion

After months of speculation over the school of magic Ambrose, Headmaster of Wizard 101’s Ravenwood Academy, prefers, Ambrose has revealed that he is a master of all schools of magic. But his current studies go beyond the Inner magics (Life, Death and Myth) and the Outer magics (Fire, Ice and Storm) to the Astral magics (Sun, Moon and Stars). I think we can be pretty certain that renegade necromancer Malistaire would be pretty interested in exploiting the power of the darkness between the stars. ...

Wizard 101: So, this is what addiction feels like

I really didn’t INTEND to play Wizard 101 all night. I just thought I’d log on and farm the Jade Oni a bit for my epic robe while watching the disc of Buffy Netflix sent me. Takes over half an hour for me to solo it (it being a 7500 health Life mob that resists most spells I cast at it). There was someone about to kill her, so I joined in, then I spawned her again and killed her solo. A friend asked for help with Crusher and Meowiarty in Big Ben, so I ported to her and helped with those. After, I returned to the Jade Palace and there was someone hanging around, bored. We got to talking about the end game and the Kensington instance and stuff and he offered to help kill the Oni again (way easier with two people), and yay, got my robe :) ...

Wizard 101: Stick a fork in it, it's done

It’s done, it’s over, and aside from finishing a couple of quests in Village of Sorrows and heading back into Shiritaki Temple for the blue oyster I missed, and of course, farming nameds for loot, I’m finished with Wizard 101. I hold the Spiral key to the world of Dragonspyre, and when it opens, I’ll be there. Well? I had to do SOMETHING while watching history being made! ...

Wizard 101: Shiritaki Temple and the Plague Oni

Well, apparently, all the demons in Wizard 101 are elephants. Who knew? The Plague Oni went down in the concentrated fire of three wizards after a long, long instance. I found out why Moo Shu is so dead for me. I was in a low population realm – AKA server. Unlike SOME games, you can change servers any time you like just by selecting your new server from a list. Wow, changing servers without having $25-50 deducted from my checking account. How is that even possible? ...

Spellborn soundscape

Saw this on WarCry; it’s a video of the shard of Hawksmouth in Spellborn with the ambient sound and music going. It’s… strangely relaxing. The streets they show are streets I’d like to walk down. The whole thing reminds me a lot of Baldur’s Gate II, but with modern, 3D graphics…

Wizard 101: October 30 update and the Cave of Sorrows

Still working on Shoshuni Village quests. I cleared out all the quests in the Cave of Sorrows, a place of treacherous paths and ramps and stuff that you have to cross dozens of times, and am now purifying the shrines in the other zone off Shoshuni, Kimise(?) Village. That is home to three shrines that will, when cleansed, weaken the Plague Oni enough so that I can defeat it. ...

Wizard 101: Crimson Fields and Sunken City (again)

Meet the War Oni, boss of Crimson Fields. I’ve been told Crimson Fields is the longest instance in Moo Shu, and so far it seems to be. Not like Sunken City or Kensington, though, it can be soloed… and for about two hours late one night, that’s what I did. I had no idea what I was getting in to! It’s not called Crimson Fields because it’s a field of lovely red flowers. The crimson is blood, and the fields are a battle field. The Warlord, once one of the Emperor’s closest advisors, betrayed Moo Shu and left a trail of death and destruction through Hametsu Village, Tatakai Outpost and the once peaceful dojo now come to be known by its bloody moniker. ...

Wizard 101: Hametsu Village

Finished Moo Shu’s first quest hub, Hametsu Village. It’s nice to have kinda-safe sidewalks to run around in; there’s nothing more annoying than the Marleybone rooftops, where the middle of the roof is safe, most of the time. Unless the mobs have decided to use that roof to turn around, in which case – grats on being chain-pulled into encounter after encounter. The night started off with one last Knight’s Court quest, in Marleybone. I had to talk to a lady there about her purse. Well, I guess she had borrowed it from someone else, it got torn up, needed to be repaired, was really someone else’s, and her purse had been stolen, so needed to defeat larcenous kittens for that one, then re-deliver everything to everyone, and so on – this kind of quest chain is really common in Wizard 101, and I think the main purpose of this quest series is to get you to run along those traitorous rooftops some more :P ...

W101: Why Flee when you can Sploit? KI, please fix.

In Wizard 101, if you happen to be drawn into a fight you either don’t want or can’t handle, you have the option to Flee. This teleports you to safety, but drains all your mana. It also informs your groupmates that you fled. Fleeing when you are just trying to run someplace and keep getting caught up in battles is okay. Teleporting to random people on your friends list hoping to surprise them in a boss battle for loot or trying to get to a world you haven’t unlocked, and then fleeing – that’s pretty low. ...

EQ2 and WoW, 2GETHA 4EVA

I went off to Amazon.com to pre-order The Shadow Odyssey so I could get that cool dire bear pet/mount (which will be claimed by Ettie, my 46 defiler), and halfway down the page, Amazon told me that people who pre-ordered the EQ2 expansion frequently pre-ordered Wrath of the Lich King at the same time. I wonder how many people play both games? I should be getting a free digital download of the expansion on my main account, since I went to Fan Faire and have gotten the Fan Faire cloak, so I’m in the system even though I attended on a press pass. I wasn’t sure about that. ...
