It’s a book filled with fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, and miracles!

While I can see how some folks think this is the worst of the Final Fantasy games, I really liked it… mostly.

Finished! My PlayStation says I spent 39 hours in the game. I was taking my time at it, too, doing all the optional content, so this isn’t a speed run. Tactics Ogre Reborn came today, though, so I just went straight for the ending, which wasn’t all that far away. I can’t say much of anything about the rest of the plot. Some of the stuff that was telegraphed from the beginning of the game happened. Some stuff that I should have expected to have happen, happened as well. About the only thing that really shocked me was how easy the final battle was. But, I was max level (30), had superior armor and weapons, and most importantly – I had finally mastered Perfect Evade on Batgirl. Having played Elden Ring this past summer, dodging the well-telegraphed attacks here was cake. ...

Black Adam has to do a lot of heavy lifting for one movie, so it brings along some friends, in the form of the Justice Society, to help out. At the end, I think I’d have rather seen a Justice Society movie. Dwayne Johnson monotones his way through the title role, without any of the anger and rage that informs his comic counterpart. Awoken accidentally by people looking for the demonic Crown of Sardacc, Black Adam has to confront the modern world and the ways his homeland, Kandahq, has changed over the past 5,000+ years since he was entombed. ...

Oyebanji’s Braking Day is a refreshing take on the generation starship story that avoids many of the tropes of the genre. The novel follows trainee engineer Ravi MacLeod as he discovers that the truth about the 132 year journey to Tau Ceti is not what he has been told. Although the book has a few flaws, Oyebanji’s writing is enjoyable and makes for a quick read.

I figured when I finally got the chance to bomb my neighbor’s yard from orbit, that that would be the turning point. But, I guess not. Apparently twigs just don’t do that much damage. I have a plan. Next time: I drop pebbles. Right onto the Tesla coil. Bzzzzzzt, indeed. Backyard Monsters, a whimsical tower defense game from Desktop Tower Defense creators Casual Collective, is about as cruel with its goo-formed monsters as any sadistic game of Lemmings.
