Divinity II don't care what class you are

Your basic Divinity II spell slinger Just because my character is wearing plate armor and swinging a two-handed sword doesn’t mean she isn’t a mean spell caster, because she is. Magic users in Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga would kick a D&D magic user’s butt to the gates of hell and back. It’s okay to make an entirely unbalanced character in a single player RPG; you are, after all, expected to save the world at some point. ...

First impressions: Atomic City Adventures: The Case of the Black Dragon

Two things I ask whenever I start playing a game with the word “Dragon” in the title. First, will I get to see a dragon? Second, can I kill it? I was wandering through Windstorm Studios’ Atomic City Adventures almost holding my breath until on the third mission, I found a golden dragon. Not a black dragon. Not a dragon I could kill. But there’s hope. Atomic City Adventures is a story set in a 1950’s smitten 24rd century where cars all float, synthetic humans do all the work, trigger-happy gangs roam the streets and only the VSF – Vehicular Strike Force – can manage to keep the city from tearing itself apart. ...

Dungeon Siege 3: Polished, Simple, Short

It's a Mule's Life At a certain point in Dungeon Siege 3, you come across a dead mule. Tired, beaten and worn, it finally collapsed under the weight of heavy armor and weapons loaded onto it by cruel adventurers. In Dungeon Siege, earning the gold to buy a mule was a game-changer, allowing you to finally carry enough junk back to a merchant to earn gold for the good stuff. In Dungeon Siege 2, the mule could become a full member of your party, gaining levels and putting up as good a fight as any elf or human. ...

EQ Nostalgia: Old Freeport in Minecraft

For all those old EverQuesties who remember the glory of Freeport before it was ruined and destroyed in the Prophecy of Ro expansion, Utenan1 has recreated West and North Freeport in Minecraft. They are so dead-on that even more than a decade in, I could still find my way around blindfolded. (Can anyone claim that with new Freeport?) West Freeport North Freeport

Go: Absolute Beginner

Not a GO Board My mom died when she was fairly young. Her carnival glass collection, her silver, her jewelry, I have nothing of those things. I think her new husband tossed all the childhood things of mine I was keeping at her place, all my childhood books I’d hoped to pass on to my kids. All I have of her are three gifts she got me; my Orange Teddy, a boxed collection of The Lord of the Rings (which will be my son’s), and this old Othello board. ...

Dragon Age 2: Money shot

Just get 3D glasses already All I hear is people complaining about Dragon Age 2. It’s linear. It isn’t as good as Dragon Age: Origins. Blah blah blah. But you know what’s different – and better – about Dragon Age 2 vs Dragon Age: Origins or Dragon Age: Awakenings? In DA2, you have to decide where you stand on certain fictional issues. In DA:O, the Templar/Chantry/Mage trinity was set up in its most ideal way as the three pillars of a supernatural triangle, each checking the power of the others. ...

Dragon Age 2: A Kinder, Gentler Dragon Age

Finally, we get to kill the dragon. It’s more than a little frustrating that the very first dragon we see in Dragon Age 2, we’re not allowed to kill. Turns out to be Flemeth (note: not a spoiler, happens in the intro and we see it in all the pre-release footage) whom we left alive in Dragon Age Origins. She’s gotten a better ‘do and filled out a bit. Life in the Wilds has been good to her. ...

Dragon Age goes social (codes included)

Dragon Age Legends character creator Ahead of Dragon Age Origin’s release in the fall of 2009, Electronic Arts’ web games division, EA2D, came out with a teaser game, Dragon Age Journeys. DA:J gave a taste of the Dragon Age milieu, introducing several of the locations you’d explore in game (such as Ozrammar and the Deep Roads), the creatures you’d kill, and the classes you’d be playing. Completing goals in Journeys led to rewards for your characters in the game. ...

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning: The Screenshots

If I were online media, I’d never have been able to bring you these exclusive screenshots from Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning that the Big Huge Games division of 38 Studios is busily polishing down in Baltimore. But since it’s just you and me, here, Curt sent these along with a personal message about the hard work the super secret Copernicus guys are doing. Here’s another secret wallpaper: ...

Daily Blogroll 11/29, Nostalgia edition

Saturday, I linked to a raid force taking down some old Kunark and Velious mobs. That got me into the game to try and see if I could find any of those same bosses - Cazic Thule, Faydedar, Trakanon and Velketor the Sorceror - up. As far as I know, CT and Faydedar, in their original forms, are no longer in the game. Trakanon had been killed just moments before I got to his lair. Velketor was up, though, and I’ve embedded a video of our meeting at the end. ...
