Lost Adventurers of Norrath

Hard to believe tonight was just the third meeting of our Nostalgia-fueled progression group! We’re trying to slow down our progression so that we have the chance to see everything, and we’re looking to the Lost Dungeons of Norrath to give us instant, instanced fun, challenges and decent loot. Gozad was the big winner. He started off as a 17 monk, and quickly won a huge weapon upgrade, a nice cloak and a Legends of Norrath Starter Pack and ended the night a hair from 19. Because of Moors questing, I was one kill from 21 and ended the night about a third of the way through 24 and with a booster deck of my own. ...

An evening in the Moors

People who think it is hard to level in EverQuest haven’t even been through Blightfire Moors. This 20-30 zone will level you so fast, and leave you with such great gear, that you’ll hardly notice you skipped past most old-world content. That’s been a problem with the progression guild. Every week, we find ourselves smashed against our weekly progression limit because EQ leveling is now so fast. Back nine years ago, you had plenty of time to smell the roses. Now, it’s a mad rush, and I have no idea where the express train ends. We’re going to have to take a step off it so we can see some of the old places we loved. ...

The fall of Kurn's Tower

I think we quite possibly may have been the first full, normal, untwinked, level appropriate group in Kurn’s Tower in quite some time. We can’t know for sure, but none others showed up while we were there. By the time everyone showed, we had seven people at Kurn’s, two people still leveling through the tutorial, and three who couldn’t make it that night. Ishbel volunteered to solo the upper skeletons. We bid her adieu and headed downstairs, to the land of the Burynai. ...

Nostalgia the Guild recruiting!

Hey! It’s not too late to get in on one last romp through Norrath before it all blowed up! We’re looking for a druid, cleric, berserker, monk or beastlord to fill out a second group. Check us out at Nostalgia the Guild the Website! Requirements: EverQuest expansions up through The Buried Sea, an ability to play Friday nights at 7PM Eastern time on a regular basis, and a desire to experience EQ1 with friends as it was meant to be seen. We have a Vent server and SOE willing, may soon even have a guild :) ...

Weekend Gaming

Nostalgia the Guild took most of my time this last weekend. It’s supposed to just be a very casual, once-a-week grouping experience through EverQuest’s old world, and it shouldn’t really require as much work as I’ve put into it. However, I don’t see how it could have taken any less, either. If you have a static group, how do you keep everything arranged? Maybe I just want everything planned out. ...

Nostalgia the Tutorial

It was a wild, exhausting first night for our EQ Nostalgia group. We had more show than could fit in one group, so we made two and went our separate ways. The beginning bit with the spiders – didn’t really need a group for that. So things started slow. They picked up when we got to the kobold area; the fight against the giant beast Krenshin definitely capped the evening! The kobolds also dropped a lot of very nice Gloom armor that quickly prepared us for the wider world. ...

EQ Year 10 Veteran Reward

Tonight is the first meeting of our EQ Nostalgia group, and I’ve been swamped with work to do. I had to create some forums, try to pull a roster together, try to make this a fun experience for our little group. I think I’m ready for tonight. One advantage EQ vets have over people entirely new to the game is the huge variety of veteran rewards – from double xp to full xp rezzes (once a week) to buff pets that follow you around; there’s a lot of good stuff here. Along with that come all the /claim items for the expansions. I never used any of them except the horse barding, but they include damage auras, bags (I claimed one!), faction items, mounts (there’s a robo-boar and a warg in there)… cool stuff. ...

Actually, EQ is NOT dead. Wanna play?

Based on last week’s discussion where we started off wondering if it was ever possible to get back that “first MMO” feeling, that veered into nostalgia, a few of us thought, maybe we would give EQ a try again. Well, that sounded good to me, so I reactivated my other account, and there for the first time in a year stand my two mains in EQ – Brita the cleric and Tipa the rogue. After raiding Thuuga and Emerald Halls on EQ2, I logged over to EQ to chat, and then omg… a pickup raid. Tonight was the last night of Fabled, and the raiders were trying to get them all killed before they were put away for another year. ...
