EQ: Asleep in the Wakening Lands

We didn’t have enough people show last night to continue on the Lavaspinner’s Lair quests, but Nostalgia’s newest member, Stolig, a 44 Magician, was there and eager to kill something. So I logged back in to my necro, Tsukina, who I haven’t played since we were all hanging around Dulak, and we headed off to the level 40 hot zone, Wakening Lands, to do some armor bashing in the name of Nostalgia. ...

EQ2: Nostalgia Guild Hall mania!

Since I barely did anything to help with the guild hall, compared with Stargrace, Kasul and Ecor, I feel kinda embarrassed to be the first to blog about it, but there ya go. If you’d been following Twitter yesterday, you’d have seen the drama as Nostalgia worked crafting writs so the guild could reach level 30 and be allowed to buy the smallest, cheapest guild hall. Even the smallest, cheapest guild hall is pretty expensive and perhaps 5-6x larger than the largest house you can buy. There is nothing small about any guild hall. They really are, large, stupid large, and omg wtf I need a map large. ...

EQ: Nostalgia enters the everlovin' PLANE of TIME.

Photoshop stitched together four screenshots to make this, automatically. Pretty neat! No, it’s true. We went to the Plane of Time tonight. Once upon a ’time’ (sorry), that meant you had completed all the raids in Planes of Power – lessee if I can remember them – Terris Thule & Saryrn, Grummus & Carprin & Bertoxxulous, the Manaetic Behemoth, any trial in the Plane of Justice (didn’t have to kill Seventh Hammer, though), Aerin’Dar & three Halls of Honor trials & Mithaniel Marr & Agnarr, Vallon Zek & Tallon Zek & Rallos Zek the Warlord, Solusek Ro, that alligator in Plane of Earth, and then the Elemental gods – Fennin Ro, Coirnav (entire raid – 14 minutes or you fail for three days), The Rathe Council (12 raid mobs – six mezzable, six not – need to die within 8 minutes of each other, IIRC), and Xegony (google ‘xegony boobie taunt’). After doing all that – and how many times for each raid before all of 72+ people were flagged? – you could zone in to the Plane of Time. ...

EQ: The Lurkers of Lavaspinner's Lair & more

Another Friday, another entirely new zone, and we still are ages from seeing more than a fraction of the game. Last week, we started doing the faction quests that open up the main mission arc of the Dragons of Norrath expansion. The first brought us to Stillmoon Temple, deep inside the Broodlands. Last night, though, we stayed a little closer to home, and headed into Lavaspinner’s Lair. A Lavaspinner is a particular kind of spider formed of cooling lava and sent forth by their queen, Volkara, one of DoN’s earlier raid targets, to entrap unwary explorers in their burning webs to use as food for her young. ...

EQ: Stillmoon Temple and the Dragons of Norrath

It was another light night, but we had a cleric, warrior, ranger and enchanter and that was enough to make a group. But where? It had been in the back of my mind that we would eventually start working on the Dragons of Norrath missions. Before you can get the missions, you need to build up faction with the one of the two wayfarer camps in Lavastorm; either the goodies or the baddies. ...

EQ2: Tomb of Thuuga and the Shard of Hate

Tomb of Thuuga. The boss fight is hard to take screenshots of because of positioning. Yes, yes, I know I don’t have time for raiding, nor the desire to have some group of strangers have control over how I spend my evenings. Hardcore raid guilds have always seemed at odds with modern life. You mean, you actually raid seven days a week? You seriously expect that every single night of their lives, people will want nothing better than to sit in front of the computer and ...

EQ: Plane of Storms

Oy vey, this post is late! From our weekly group almost a week ago. It’s just been a bad week, what with another trip to Rhode Island last week which took way more time than I’d expected, a full weekend and then… Spore… Well, enough excuses. The worst thing about being late for this was that it was actually a REALLY GOOD NIGHT! I think this is likely the first xp group since Gloomingdeep Mines where everyone actually got a lot of experience. And for that, I am deeply indebted to everyone that came! ...

EQ: I love the smell of Harpies in the morning

The regular Friday group was postponed this week because of the Labor Day holiday, but that didn’t mean we weren’t going to have any EQ action this week. Sejal, still reeling from the horrible news that cruising through the Plane of Justice Execution trial no longer flags you to enter the Planes of Storms and Valor. Apparently there’s still some level 55 barrier in place… Nobody ever thinks of us poor mid-levels! ...

EQ: Hot zone hoedown

The plan was to help everyone get to level 60 so we can start doing some of the two group raids in Kunark, Velious and Luclin – things like Velketor the Sorcerer, Trakanon, Venril Sathir and such. What better way, than through the hot zones? The hot zone for our level was (was) Riwwi in Gates of Discord. Not the best place in the world, but we made plans to go. ...

EQ: Hearts full of Hate

Yeah, it seems really hard to imagine, but we have not yet ventured into any of the alternate planes of reality as a guild. We fixed that last night as we had our way with the Plane of Hate. This isn’t your dad’s Plane of Hate. Once a viciously deadly raid zone, PoH has been gentled, and is now a fairly average place to experience. We had the guild hall portal set to PoH so people could come and go as they pleased, a huge difference from the old days where just finding a wizard to port you up was difficult, as the zone in was often a death trap. Early zoning strategy was to hope the monsters would be more interested in killing the other groups so that yours could get to the safe point, and then you could start the long, mandatory corpse recovery before you ever pulled a single mob. It could easily be an hour between zoning up and being ready to pull. Sisca, our monk, used to have the job in those elder days of zoning to Hate, feigning death immediately, then dragging the corpses once everyone was done dying. ...
