Wizard 101 added shared bank slots, voice overs to all quests in Wizard City and Krokotopia, and the St Patrick’s Day RMT gear in today’s patch. Gamer’s Daily News has a full description of the new changes, and I’ll be posting all the details after I get into the game tonight. Thanks to Game Mom for the heads-up!

EQ2: Latest arrivals in the Station Marketplace

Too long has the EQ2 Station Marketplace modeling job been dominated by “sexy” or “good looking” or even “somewhat attractive” models. It’s time for a change. It’s time for the gnomes to take over. The annual Brewday festival starts today (I think), but you won’t need to be drunk to grab these fine new hats and outfits for a little bit of cash. Show off your love of 70s-era live television comedy with your very own “Beldar and Prymatt Conehead” hat. Just the thing for ‘imbibing mass quantities’ on Brewday! For vertically-challenged gnomes, this hat has another feature – now you’re taller than any dwarf in the room! They will back away from your gnomish awesomeness as you cheerfully explain how the ratio of the height to the circumference of your hat is EXACTLY the same as the ratio of Master Dwarf’s intelligence to his hobnailed boot size! HA! ...

Classic EQ Petition

It’s probably just because EverQuest was my first really huge MMO (though not my first; Nexus: Kingdom of the Wind was my first), but I’ve never really felt about any other MMO the way I felt about EQ. Even though sometimes it was frustrating, it was always fun, and it’s the friends I met there and the memories I have that have kept me subscribed since May of 1999. ...

City of Heroes: Adversarious and Radium Red

There’s maybe two MMOs that I have played where the newbie grounds are always full of people. One is World of Warcraft – when I played, there were always people around the newbie grounds. The other is City of Heroes. It’s going to be getting a lot busier, what with Issue 14 bringing along the Architect system, where people can make their own adversaries and mission arcs and then publish them for everyone to play. The spotlight of buzz will once again focus on this always innovative game. ...

The League of Cruelty presents: The Teleprompter

Name: The Teleprompter Power: Never far from the halls of power, the Teleprompter makes sure his master stays ON message and doesn’t say anything he isn’t SUPPOSED to say. Weaknesses: He has a position paper on the subject which he will distribute to you in triplicate. Stay on message. Emphasize the words correctly. Stay calm. Supergroup affiliation: Longtime member of the Transition Team. Still trying to figure out what kind of missions I’m going to write for the Architect. I was thinking, maybe you could free and then join a dance crew. Or something.

The League of Cruelty presents: Rush O Mon

Name: Rush O Mon Power: Rush O Mon uses the power of his voice, transmitted and amplified by the twin stereo transmitters on his shoulders, to attack and defeat his many opponents. Weaknesses: Various addictions, powerful ego. Supergroup affiliation: Leader and prophet of the Dittoheads. He has also taken shadow control of the minority governing party. Gotta love character creators.

The League of Cruelty Presents: Octomom

Name: Octomom Power: Octomom has the mutant ability to raise an army of small children with which to wreak her will on a celebrity-starved society. Weaknesses: No known source of income Supergroup affiliation: Morning Talk Circus Okay, I apologize in advance to the real ‘Octomom’, but … how could I resist? I have to point out that on my CoH server, Freedom, “Octomom” and “Octo Mom” were both already taken, hence “Octo Mama”. So, my bad taste is, at least, shared by two others :/

What's to love about Cryptic's Star Trek Online?

Ya know, I was going to start this forward looking collection of cool stuff about Cryptic’s forthcoming Star Trek Online with a look backward at Perpetual’s time with the license, but I couldn’t. The Perpetual people were making the game they wanted. It wasn’t the game I wanted, but they weren’t making it for me. They were making it for people who wanted a Star Trek game that wasn’t very different from World of Warcraft. ...

Will 2009 be the best year ever for MMOs?

In 2007, you could have surprised absolutely nobody by predicting that 2008, last year, would be the biggest, best year ever for MMOs. Triple A titles abounded – Age of Conan and Warhammer Online were both just going to tear WoW a new one, but heck, even WoW was coming out with its second expansion. Pirates of the Burning Sea would take MMOs into a new direction, Chronicles of Spellborn would be an indie hit from Europe, and Flagship would be following up Hellgate: London with their MMO homage to Diablo II, Mythos. ...
