What you can’t before is that you’re going to be fighting him alone. It was not an easy fight for a 41 Myth wizard to do, especially since I had forgotten to ever buy the Reshuffle card for her deck. She was down to just one card – a heal – and the boss had over 400 health left. Marissa was forced to draw some treasure cards… and there were the Ninja Pigs brothers, Poruku, Hama, and Bakon, ready to go. ...

I signed up for World of Warcraft just for the free week they offered. I played a couple of times, said hello to my old characters, started a new one, realized I had both no idea how to play and no particular reason to do so, and was about to bid WoW adieu until Cataclysm. It used to be such a happy place. True story: I started EQ2 as a happy resident of Baubbleshire. I joined a roleplay guild on Antonia Bayle, settled down for a happy time in a happy land and – – and then I saw through the facade. These people weren’t happy. They were miserable. That little kid who screamed constantly of gnolls – why wouldn’t anyone help him? The cheap grins that masked the terror every one of them lived with. The false hope that Qeynos’ thick walls would keep the bad things away. It was a sham, a fraud, and I couldn’t do my part any more. I couldn’t live with the lies. I couldn’t go to bed in my haffer hole and trust that the guards in their shiny silver suits could keep me safe. ...

I don’t really like making posts about EVE back-to-back. It IS my main game, these days, but I am oft reminded of some tips to EVE bloggers I read on CrazyKinux’s blog a few months ago: Nobody wants to read about how you did a level 4 mission. I try to keep the day-to-day out of the blog. But corp-mates have insisted I repeat yesterday’s wormhole adventure twice, so I might as well just write it here. ...

In the end, the only way we can ensure the EVE economy functions as the finely oiled machine we have come to know, immune from the whims and disasters that strike the real world, is for each of us to step up and make it our business… to make it our business. Case in point. I’m flying courier missions in the Kador region of Amarr space, trying to improve my standings with CreoDron as I start on the long, slow road to invention. Occasionally they toss a combat mission in with the interminable and meaningless trips to travel hundreds of parsecs just to buy some cigarettes, or oxygen, or dirt. ...

Amazingly, I don’t think Blizzard has ever offered me free time to check out WoW once again before. They DID send me a trial disk for Burning Crusade after it launched, but you had to have an active subscription to give it a shot. When I checked out my account page, there was the free week offer, there was an offer for 10 free days of Burning Crusade, there was the link to download all the game files in case I didn’t have them…. It was a warm, fuzzy feeling. They really wanted me back! ...

Almost everyone bought some with the free Test-realm Crowns. I met a wizard in one of the homes who had a similar winged outfit, but it was subtly different. I checked out her character, and she had the real deal – the high-end dueling robes you get only by winning many, many duels. I felt kinda sorry for her. When this expansion goes live, very few people will be able to appreciate her accomplishment.

I got it into my head a few weeks ago that for true success in EVE Online, I really needed to take control of my consumables. Ammo is no problem; I have that covered. Anyone can make normal ammo right out of the box, day one (and they probably should). But my real need was for Tech II drones. ...

The new houses have JUST gone live on the test realm, so more on the homes Real Soon Now! Balance: I looked over all these pictures and the one I liked best was the first I looked at. The Balance school house is a series of rooms balanced atop a bottomless pit and connected by swaying bridges, while looked over by imposing statues of Balance herself. ...
