Neverwinter: It's Forgotten Realms, but is it D&D?

I'll heal you, but it might hurt a little bit. This is the first beta weekend for Cryptic’s “Neverwinter”, an action-oriented MMO set in one of the more famous of the Forgotten Realm’s cities. We’ve seen Neverwinter brought to life before in “Neverwinter Nights” and its sequel, titles that kept their relevance by offering every player the chance and opportunity to create and run their own dungeons for themselves and their friends. ...

DCUO: Grinding for Hoodies

Batwoman T-Shirt Superboy Hoodie Ever since I heard that the only hope of my DCUO Green Lantern-“ish” character getting to wear the lantern symbol on her costume was to find a Green Lantern hoodie in The Vault, I’ve been in there every day. The Vault is the only solo “On Duty” mission available. You can do it once a day, and it’s just going in and smashing presents for cash and the occasional cosmetic item. It’s supposedly set up by Joker for the villains and fourth wall-breaking Ambush Bug for the heroes, but it’s only Joker for both sides once you get in, urging you on as you smash green and purple presents and avoiding bombs and giant bouncy balls. ...

EQ2: Entering Ethernere

Druid Ring of Doom My cleric, Arda (née Dera), turned level 92 a few days ago. Though this is the threshold for the new Chains of Eternity expansion, I wasn’t going to repeat a mistake I made when Scatter dinged that level a couple months back: I wasn’t going to leave good, experience-generating quests in the Withered Lands undone. Though Arda had the second sip from the potion that granted her 280 AAs when she turned 90 (leaving nothing for my other alts), she still has a good ways to go to reach the 320 AA cap. With all her experience being shunted to adventure levels, it’s important when she does hit level 95 that there’s still enough quests left over to quickly get the remaining AAs. ...

DCUO: Gorilla of their Dreams

Bye bye Bane! I think we’re getting the hang of the game. We know how the controls work, mostly. We know our roles and how to use them, as shown by the score cards that pop up after each “On Duty” mission – DCUO’s instanced dungeons and battlefields. Kaptain KY and I, the controllers, had the high scores in power return. Stingheal, Stingite’s new healer (since we discovered we didn’t have one) was a healing gnome of some sort. Not sure what he is. Lord Spode just brought the hurt. ...

Star Trek Online: The Temporal Ambassador

The Enterprise C and a time ship battle a Tholian fleet There’s only so much reading about all the fun the people in the Federation News Service were having in Star Trek Online before I had to patch up, log in, and check for myself. It’s been a very long time since I last did more than just log in; since that time, the stalwart Publishers and Editors of FNS tirelessly constructed a starbase and even sent an embassy to New Romulus. ...

DCUO: Home Turf

The Mainframe in the Membrane The “Home Turf” downloadable content dropped in DC Universe Online yesterday, bringing housing to the hordes of heroes and villains of Metropolis and Gotham City. It opens up at level 12, so the first order of the day was getting to level 12 (luckily, this week’s level cap in Team Spode). There’s not much you can initially do in the base. “Oracle” gave me three pieces of furniture to place, a wall clock, a table for the floor, and a ceiling lamp, which fit into LotRO-style “hooks”. Oracle said that after all the hooks are filled, I’d be able to place additional bits of furniture anywhere I liked, similar to EQ2’s housing. ...

DCUO: A Slippery Slope

Aboard Brainiac's ship in Area 51 Move over, Justice League. It’s time for Team Spode to take the stage. It was time for those old guys to take early retirement anyway, since they apparently just hide away in police stations when they’re not being captured and controlled by supervillains. They are USELESS. No WONDER they let the Earth get destroyed in the future. The world was shouting, “Where is the Justice League?”. But the Justice League was shouting, “Where is TEAM SPODE?” ...

EQ2: A Simple Plan, Revisited

Reporting to Lucan Last post, I talked about trying to re-create the inn room from some missing NPC in Arda’s Freeport inn room. I couldn’t find all – or almost any – of the furnishings available by crafting or on the broker. And then, there was a bookcase that might have been needed that had no appearance. Thursday’s patch restored the appearance for that bookcase, but it was nothing like what I needed. Undeterred, I decided to do the best I could with what I had, and finish the Freeport city quest lines for completeness’ sake. ...

EQ2: A Simple Plan

Inspiration! When I level up a character, I get bored if I do the same things, go the same places as another character. There’s too much stuff in EverQuest 2 to ever do the same thing twice. Sure, there’s people who want their character to get to the top level as soon as possible, but I’m not a raider, there’s nothing waiting for me at the end game. For me, the journey truly is the reward. ...

DCUO: A Tight Squeeze

Batwoman, Scarecrow and TEAM SPODE! Four heroes came together to rid Metropolis and Gotham City of the worst of the worst, taking on the jobs that the more noteworthy heroes of the DC Universe could not, or would not, deal with. Because, and I guess I’m getting a little ahead of myself, but wasn’t Batman kinda dealing with Scarecrow? And now he’s decided to let the “B” team have a shot to cover his evident failure? ...
