Weekly Foundry Reviews -- February 5, 2015

Well, this week the Foundry wasn’t being kind to us. First I, and later Kasul, couldn’t open the final chest for two of the foundries, so we couldn’t both leave reviews. And one of those foundries refused to finish at all! And another foundry, previously featured – twice! – had clearly been broken by some foundry change and couldn’t be finished. Still, we did what we could. Part 1: Silver Thieves by @waldo79 ()* ...

DCUO: Valentine 2015!

New Valentine’s Day event for 2015 in SOE’s Daybreak’s #DCUO . In this one, tragic lover Mister Freeze has decided to take advantage of the invasion of Metropolis by the Star Sapphires to steal some of their amethyst crystals to power his freeze tech. Hey, cheaper than diamonds. Will he finally be able to rez his cryowife? Not if Star Sapphire Carol Ferris has her way. But, in the charming uselessness shared by most of DCUO’s iconic heroes and villains, Star Sapphire, with her magic ring and complete control over the emotion of LURRRRVE, must nonetheless ask four random players to help take down Mister Freeze, whose only power is his freeze gun. ...

Guild Wars 2: Team Spode invades GW2!

Guild Wars 2: Team Spode took its first steps into Guild Wars 2. This was always going to be a stretch – we have six core players, and the maximum group size is five. We were playing on Tarnished Coast, one of the busiest servers in the game, so zoning out of a city could leave people in different instances. So Jovan (Blighted) opted to play his high level character while the rest of us grouped up in Divinity’s Reach, busted some dance moves, then set out into the wilderness to fill some hearts. ...

Traipsing about in Shroud of the Avatar.

Traipsing about in Shroud of the Avatar. It’s working. I didn’t see any other players, but every available housing plot I came across was all bought up. Ye shall know them by their claims…. This is definitely an explorer’s game. Though, I did like their “Deck”-based combat – instead of having all your skills available (which is an option), you can opt to have your skills randomly chosen from a deck of skills that is automatically made or made by you. That was pretty cool. ...

Neverwinter: First floor of Newfallen to 80%!

First floor of Newfallen to 80%. I deleted the old story and the old maps. Now, the only way to go is full speed ahead. Floor 2 will probably only have two encounters (floor 1 has five, three of which are optional). There is enough room on floor 3 for as many additional encounters as I can think of reasons for. My one rule in foundries is: each encounter must have a reason to exist. ...

EverQuest: Plight of the Undead

Just for verisimilitude’s sake, I ran through the “Plight of the Undead” Befallen quest in actual EverQuest to get tips and pointers and you know what, I think my version of the quest is going to be better. The original quest really, really wants you to jump into the well and then work your way back up, fighting the quest NPCs plus all the other random Befallen trash. I really, really don’t want people to jump down the well (or at least, not live to regret it if they do). My fear is that players will jump in the well, kill all the uber mobs I’m going to put there, run around, kill Rethkan, and be done with it in five minutes. On the other hand, I want to leave that as an option. ...

Weekly Foundry Reviews -- 1/28/2015

Weekly Foundry Reviews – 1/28/2015** Well, I missed a week, so this week, there’s a double helping of foundry goodness. Blame it on the blizzard. And remember, if I seem harsh, every single one of these quests has gotten more plays than any of mine. So who am I to talk, right? A Missing Man - CotW:1** by @redneckrobin** A man mysteriously disappears on the night of a full moon. Perhaps this had something to do with a mysterious wound he got long ago during his days as a caravan guard? You’ll never believe what happened! ...

Neverwinter: Decent progress on the first floor of "Newfallen" this weekend.

I made decent progress on the first floor of “Newfallen” this weekend. Most of the ceiling has been added. I’ve sketched out the Gynok Moltar encounter, but I think I need to make it a little easier. The druid is now Pham Willowbark, who appears in most of my other EQ adventures. The plan is for each room to be its own little mini-adventure. I’ve decided to use the Befallen quest “Plight of the Undead” as the model for my Befallen revamp. It’s one of the newer Befallen quests – and by newer, I mean only a decade old. Unlike classic Befallen, this one has minibosses and a final boss. The original quest begins with a trip down into the well… I’m going to split that up a bit. ...
