Why I am not playing Neverwinter...

No Game for You This has been happening for a few weeks, now. The game has trouble connecting me to their account server. Eventually I get in, but if I ever return to the character selection screen, BAM. Eventually I can’t connect again. This can happen sometimes even when I do manage to log in. Neverwinter tech support sent me a tip sheet that was meant to help if I couldn’t connect at all. Even though I explained that wasn’t the problem. ...

Final Fantasy XIV is... different?

Final Fantasy is such a different experience, that a bit more than a week in, I’m still not sure how I feel about it. I do LIKE it… but… wait, a little background. I’ve had this sudden insight lately that what I like best about MMOs is the leveling up. The max level grind doesn’t interest me at all. It used to, back in the EverQuest days. Back then, I loved seeing dungeons and raids again and again because each time, I’d be better at them. ...

Ragefire Against the Machine...

I can’t accept any kind of nostalgia server, like Ragefire or Lockjaw, while the Commonlands and Freeport are in such sad shape. Of all the things I did not like about the Prophecy of Ro expansion, I liked the “upgrades” to Freeport the least. Taking the advice of the more experienced, I snuck – sloooowly – through Kithicor, ran madly to the East Commonlands tunnel, and then snuck once again through North Ro to the newbie fields outside the Freeport NRo gate, working my way up to level 3. I wasn’t the only one hunting armadillos, but I got a few, enough to end up with a couple plat. That was money enough to go merchant diving for some tattered leather armor and a rusty spear – TOTES UPGRADES! ...

Starting off in Ul'dah...

After much discussion, Kasul and I decided to start Final Fantasy XIV in Ul’dur (I think that’s how it’s spelled), me as a Guardian, he as a Thaumaturge. Though I don’t think he’s created his character yet – he’s been fully pulled in to EverQuest, Ragefire style :) I wanted to get past the newbie quests, eventually ending up in an outdoor zone at level 8 with my second set of armor upgrades. Kasul said the guides said the first ten levels were pretty much solo-only, but I’m already bumping into these Fate events (public quests) and that really sounds like something that indicates I’ve moved out of the newbie solo stuff. ...

Ma, A Moss Snake Kicked Me!

With the opening of the new Lockjaw progression server, life on Ragefire settled down enough for me to log in at prime time, and even find, eventually, all the moss snakes (who no longer seem to kick much, darn it) and black wolves I could want to destroy. After an hour of grinding, and thanks to a buff cast on me by a passing cleric, I made it a little bit into level 2. Couldn’t afford any upgrades… couldn’t afford to craft, either. ...

Tipa Stabs Again!

Tipa stabs again. I can’t even recall how long it’s been since I made Tipa v1.0. I do remember that I twinked her with a lot of Rygorr armor from the orc fort in Velious, so that was probably the timeframe. She was my sixth character, I think? Mehve the Erudite Wizard, Etha the Halfling Druid, Tsuki the Gnome Mage, Nashuya the Dark Elf Shadowknight, Nina the Halfling Fighter, and then Tipa. ...

Ding 66, and I've left Fiery Pit.

Ding 66, and I’ve left Fiery Pit for awhile to return to Reclamation Rock. Leveling up is going fairly slowly. There’s a lot of grinding going on. Almost all the old level 60 content has been bumped up to level 70. This means that we’re all doing a lot of work just to get back to doing the content we’ve done before. I have reminders to go check out Sharandar and Dread Ring again. ...

Weekly Foundry Reviews -- February 18, 2015

Based on a suggestion last week in the forums, I went through the 159 quests that we have reviewed (we played many more before I first thought to write about them) and compiled them in a spreadsheet based on the one I kept for the Cult of the Dragon foundry contest.** With that information, I’m able to suggest quests similar to the quests we review :) The link to the spreadsheet: http://goo.gl/XbV9hj ...

GW2: Lighting up the Wayfarer's Foothills.

Team Spode took our third trip into Guild Wars 2, Sunday. The first week we explored Queensdale, last week we played around in Metrica and killed a fire elemental. This week, we had our sights on a Son of Sam Snow Shaman in the Norn newbie grounds of the Wayfarer’s Foothills, and the guild jumping puzzle in the nearby Snowden Drifts. That was the first thing we did that required a guild, but, we weren’t enough people to both dislodge icicles from the cavern ceiling and plug steam vents with them once they’d been dislodged, so we failed that. ...

Weekly Foundry Quests -- February 11, 2015

After running into Ian Darksword entirely by accident (Guard Frinko will back me up on this!), he agreed to help us run through a few foundries this week. Bringing some much-needed insight into Forgotten Realms lore to our lore-less duo :)** The Redcap Snatchers by @hustin1**** Who doesn’t still wake up in cold sweats with “WITHER YOUR LIMBS!” ringing in their ears after finishing that Sharandar campaign? I know I sure do. It’s why I hired a powrie companion to follow me around, hoping that familiarity and the sudden draining of all my action points at random times will dull the pain. ...
