Finally, finally, FINALLY! All the work Tom and I have been doing in printing and painting miniatures and dungeon parts paid off last night as we finally sat down to play the first two scenarios in Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion. I’d really wanted to talk about playing in the new EverQuest server today. I took a day off from work to play EverQuest and watch the SpaceX rocket take off with two American astronauts from American soil. Neither happened. I guess the weather just wasn’t quite right for either. It wasn’t a total loss. It was still nice to spend an unexpected day with my boyfriend. We went to the local game store, which opened early for us. We were the only ones there. I bought a very small paint brush and a couple vials of paint; Kasul bought a couple of discount games. The person working there didn’t know when they’d be running Friday Night Magic again. We were all of us wearing masks. I bought an Ikoria bundle just for fun. ...

A week or two ago, I went to Hero Forge and downloaded 3D models of two of my Octopath Traveler minis, Olberic and Primrose. I’d fixed Olberic’s sword to resemble the one he used in game a little better. Primrose is a mini we haven’t seen before. I thought they’d be fun to fiddle with, maybe learn how to paint. I downloaded the latest version of FreeCAD and started teaching myself how to play with 3D models. ...

Since I finished Octopath Traveler a few weeks ago, I’ve been looking for another really decent RPG in which to lose myself. My boyfriend had several suggestions: Persona 4, DragonQuest XI, or the Witcher 3. Now I’ve seen the Netflix series, so I kinda know the characters. When there were still places called “libraries” that people could go to, I’d borrowed the “Blood of Elves” Witcher book, which takes place after the events in the Netflix series. ...

It wasn’t super long ago that I ordered these minis from Hero Forge. I’d backed their latest Kickstarter and had a color mini as a reward. I didn’t really have an idea what mini I’d want to make, but I was pretty sure I’d think of something. When Hero Forge announced that their color design tools were ready to use, I was just finishing Octopath Traveler. I decided then and there that what I really wanted was a mini of my main character, H’aanit the Huntress. Once I’d designed her in the tools, I really couldn’t not design the other seven travelers, and so I did. ...

The 3D printed characters should look a lot like this. Hero Forge sent today the receipt for yesterday’s order for the printed Octopath Traveler minatures. The lighting is a lot flatter than it is in the modeler, and I expect this will look more like the printed result than the modeler. Kind of that grainy feel I’ve seen in sintered pieces I’ve ordered from Shapeways before. They’ll be done in June sometime…

I’ve got 110 hours into Octopath Traveler on the Switch, and those hundred and ten don’t like – it’s a fun game. Frustrating at times… I’ve been working on the true final ending for a couple of weeks now, slowly improving, getting a little bit further. Most of my characters are around level 70, but that final boss is TOUGH. Sure, Reddit says you can beat that boss at level 35, but Reddit lies all the time. ...
