EQ2: Twoo Luv and the Nerfbat

Well, mostly, this post is to test how my usual article heading picture can replace the header image, which is cool. Secondly, yes, I am NOT ONLY playing DC Universe Online, though from looking at the past few posts, it certainly looks as though I am. It’s just that Arda is basically retracing Scatter’s steps from a couple months back. It’s the grind to 95, and all the fun content the first time is just stuff you gotta do the second time. ...

Game Log: EQ2, DCUO

Power Girl, Super Girl, Wonder Woman Doctor Psycho, I don’t think you’re even a real doctor. But yeah, I can see that that would be a tough name to grow up with, plus being only a foot tall doesn’t help much. I thought your powers were lame, as I crawled through Metropolis General’s Meta Wing, where you forced me to pummel the entire hospital’s security staff while I freed the imprisoned meta-humans along the way. How did you ever capture Supergirl, anyway? ...

EQ2: Entering Ethernere

Druid Ring of Doom My cleric, Arda (née Dera), turned level 92 a few days ago. Though this is the threshold for the new Chains of Eternity expansion, I wasn’t going to repeat a mistake I made when Scatter dinged that level a couple months back: I wasn’t going to leave good, experience-generating quests in the Withered Lands undone. Though Arda had the second sip from the potion that granted her 280 AAs when she turned 90 (leaving nothing for my other alts), she still has a good ways to go to reach the 320 AA cap. With all her experience being shunted to adventure levels, it’s important when she does hit level 95 that there’s still enough quests left over to quickly get the remaining AAs. ...

D&D4e: Valda Onyxheart

Valda Onyxheart The sky above the lost city of Thunderholme was gray and crumbling. Massive chunks of granite had been ripped from the sky and thrown to smash the carved homes and markets below by illithid magics and the violence of the stone giants. Rotted carrion worm carapaces blocked the obsidian paths along which ore was brought to the now-silent foundries. The mithril-glow lamps that had once lit the city like a thousand bright stars were now dark, melted by the craven horde. Now the only light in Thunderholme came from fetid corpse-fires that cast flickering green light from between the bodies of the orcs and goblins that crowded close. ...

EQ2: A Simple Plan, Revisited

Reporting to Lucan Last post, I talked about trying to re-create the inn room from some missing NPC in Arda’s Freeport inn room. I couldn’t find all – or almost any – of the furnishings available by crafting or on the broker. And then, there was a bookcase that might have been needed that had no appearance. Thursday’s patch restored the appearance for that bookcase, but it was nothing like what I needed. Undeterred, I decided to do the best I could with what I had, and finish the Freeport city quest lines for completeness’ sake. ...

EQ2: A Simple Plan

Inspiration! When I level up a character, I get bored if I do the same things, go the same places as another character. There’s too much stuff in EverQuest 2 to ever do the same thing twice. Sure, there’s people who want their character to get to the top level as soon as possible, but I’m not a raider, there’s nothing waiting for me at the end game. For me, the journey truly is the reward. ...

EQ2: An Angelic Presence

Divine judgement has come upon you Mel Pence may look all dark and purpley in her evil looking armor, but when Dera reached level 86 while doing random dungeons with an illusionist, well, there were these ice wings I got from a Legends of Norrath loot card. And those icy wings didn’t really match her dark, functional armor, so I picked up some shining armor from the Freeport city merchants and flew her up into the skies of the Commonlands. ...

EQ2: Shifting Focus

Epic! First thing Arda/Dera did when she wrested her epic back from the villainous blacksmith who wanted the weapon for himself was go to Qeynos and start killing them dragons. Even though she betrayed the Shining City and pledged her loyalty to the Dread Lord of Freeport long ago. Anyway, dragons. Must die. Wherever they are found. I’ve been leveling my assassin, Brightknife, when not playing Scatterfall. Assassins are fun classes, but they are group classes. Assassins stealth, and then unleash absolutely astonishing damage, flickering in and out of stealth several times a second. ...

EQ2: SOE fixes "DM Powerleveling"

Don't cry for me, powerleveler Powerleveling has always existed in EverQuest 2, but never so much as when the “perfect storm” of player-made dungeons tuned for powerleveling and armor that could simultaneously heal the player while killing anything that hit it came on the scene with the release of the Chains of Eternity expansion. Leveling a character, for many, became nothing more than zoning into a DM dungeon, running around to get everything hitting you, and running out a couple minutes later, a level higher – AND with “Dungeon Maker Marks” to spend on armor, weapons and other goodies. ...

EQ2: Paths to the Past

Norrathian track lighting I leveled very quickly, once I got my mercenary, and I only did the dungeons that I could do “molo” (merc + solo) and for which I had quests, so all the KoS group instances, plus Karnor’s, Chelsith and Chardok back in Kunark. EverQuest 2 gives you a reason to go back to all the dungeons you may have missed with their “Paths to the Past” timeline. Every day is a different legacy dungeon. You have a quest to kill a boss in that dungeon, usually the end boss but not always, for which you can buy a little plushie of the boss to put in your home. Also, each run will have plenty of loot to sell for money, and if you need levels or AA, well, there’s a chronomage right next to the quest giver who will temporarily level you down, for a fee, so the dungeon’s denizens are worth XP and drop loot. ...
