EverQuest

Looking back on my characters from around the time of the Velious expansion, I can see why people considered EQ1 a little hard on the eyes. I wonder if I can even remember who all these characters are…. some of them were on Fennin Ro, where I played with a couple of fellow Guides sometimes… Front row - the shorties. Patience, my Fennin Ro cleric and currently a Bazaar mule on EMarr. She was still wearing that chain and bronze armor she bought from people killing dwarves in Butcherblock when I transferred her. ...

I was about fifty/fifty on whether or not to log into EQ1 or WoW and raid last night; the coin came down EQ1, and so I logged in and made my extremely slow way to the Demiplane of Blood. This is the most cleric-unfriendly zone in the game; to get there safely, a good invis and a nice lev is vital. Sure, I have “cleric invis” - my 18 seconds of invulnerability - and I have used that when invis wore off at a bad time. ...

Kinda bugs me when people insist they cannot play the original EverQuest because of “the horrible graphics”. Sure, seven years ago, the graphics were blocky - but that was seven years ago. Things have changed quite a lot. This shot, killing some treants in the new Prophecy of Ro zone of Taka’hiz… (or whatever…), wouldn’t look out of place in EQ2, or even WoW, if you made the colors brighter. ...

Got Dina to level 44 last night adventuring in Lavastorm; her first level since last May. Earlier had hooked up with Solamon, and he, along with Nashuya and Dina, did the first three runs in the JBoots quest (I was pretty impressed that Solamon, at 19, finished the TS run…). Between that, some Guitar Hero, watching Mythbusters for the first time, and (gasp) some chores, the night was pretty full. ...

I got a group for Nashuya in the usual way… someone needed help killing a named in Thundering Steppes; I was running Dera through there on the way to Enchanted Lands to meet up with Nashuya and knock off some writs, so I offer to help (with Dera), then get them to invite “my SK”. See, though I consider Nashuya my (current) main, everyone else considers Dera my main. Including my guild. “Of COURSE Dera is your main! Who the heck needs another tank - but we ALWAYS need clerics!” ...

Nashuya is level 32, nearly 33… this is level 20-ish quest armor… she has upgraded most of the pieces already, usually even before she got the corresponding quest item but that doesn’t matter! She looks GREAT in it! The help available for this quest tapered off more and more as I fell behind the guild leveling curve… in the end I finished it myself, just Nashuya and Dera fighting creatures for the trinkets the smith in East Freeport demanded. ...

I have only recently been playing EQ1 again, and the new expansion kinda snuck up on me. I knew Prophecy of Ro was coming out, but I really did not know when. EQ2’s Kingdom of Sky, I knew about. I figured I’d pick up a copy of both on the way home so I could check them out on at least one account before springing for the other. But Walmart… never heard of EverQuest. They had lots of WoWs, though. ...

I didn’t really expect to be able to raid last night, but when I logged in the guild had just wiped, and there was a spot for me… so… I was able to attend a raid I thought I would never see. Queen Sendaii is a two hour fight, and I think it was pretty fun. The guild has been hammering on this raid night after night while I was at work or playing some other game, so I can’t take any credit. ...
