EQ2: EoF Character Goals

With the expansion, I have a lot of work ahead. I’ve done a lot of exploring and played some classes I don’t normally play (e.g. Fury and Conjurer), done many new quests and seen a lot of new places. I just have to figure out how to best do all I would like to do without having to level too many new chaarcters. Account 1: Dina (70 troubador/45 tailor), Dera (58 inquisitor/26 armorer), Tipa (38 monk in exile) ...

EQ2: Is your Fae a SPACE ALIEN?

Recent reports from the newly discovered Tower of Zet in the Lesser Faydark tell of strange writings which uncover an ALIEN PLOT to PUT ALIENS IN FAE BODIES! These SPACE ALIENS would then level up like ANY OTHER FAE, with the goal of TAKING CONTROL of a DRAGON and then RAINING DESTRUCTION ACROSS NORRATH! Surely the Fae leaders are already aware of this threat and are dealing with it? Fae Royal Defense Minister, speaking on behalf of Gnomeland Security, today claimed that there couldn’t possibly be a threat because the Queen would already have dealt with it. ...

EQ2: Your First Fae

A Guide to Living and Loving as a Fae Welcome to the Nursery! You are in the Greater Faydark and are surrounded by friends. Until recently you were nothing but a Spirit Bud, floating around, hoping to find some nourishing place to alight, grow, and hatch. Each season, hundreds of spirit buds are eaten by the nasty shrumblers – but not you! One of your first jobs will be clearing those shrumblers so more Fae can be born. ...

EQ1: Hallowe'en Quests

Eye on Norrath Presents…. Just wanted to say that… Noffin and Coenan helped my cleric Brita do a Halloween quest back on EQ1 tonight and as I raced around Toxxulia Forest looking for gnome-sized toadstools to lick pick, I thought… hey, I remember when I first started EQ as an Erudite wizard and couldn’t see anything in this forest because I was blind. Blind and directionally challenged. And sexy in that long, red, form-hiding abaya… oh yeah, steamy times in the stygian gloom back then. All sorts of happy memories… that confused feeling when nothing makes sense… and spells didn’t have any descriptions so you had no idea what anything did… so you might spend all your gold on a spell that gave you an incredible 2 point damage shield. Sure, I’ll never forget those days… ...

EQ2: Hallowe'en Quest

Nashuya sent in a little song she wrote after doing the Haunted House quest in West Freeport. She’s not usually this happy, but she made level 45 while doing it. *Everyone is happy on this happy Halloween Helping undead butlers keep the study clean Dusting sweeping rearranging keep me fit and lean All is done! The Butler’s ghost quickly leaves the scene* ...

EQ2: Quests, Quests, Quests

Coming so close on the heels of my last letter, you might think there’s been some emergency – but we’re fine, all are well. Adventures just won’t let us rest! Should the Rivervale Gazette ever ask about us, just tell them that all is well. I wish the courier that bears these letters back through the veils of time to the Norrath-That-Was could bring some word from you. But that is not the bargain we struck, when we agreed to be torn from our own humble homes to this future world of danger. Our purpose here remains unknown. Yet we struggle on and keep the name Tanglewood alive. ...

EQ2: Crafting Milestones

Dear Mother; I am having the Big Bend scribe write this letter for me. I don’t think I can hold a pen at the moment. I apologize for any drool marks or bits of loose skin you might find here. The ogre writing this letter is none too tidy. SCROG CLEAN! SCROG GOOD SCRIBE, U’LL SEE. Scrog, just write what I say! No, don’t write that. No! I’m just trying to tell you.. Why do you write down everything I say? Stop! SCROG JUST DOING WHAT SCROG TOLD. ...

EQ2: Of Heritages, Gods, and What Is Fun

Dorah learns there’ll be no more scooter rides in the cemetary Work is hell. I’ve been coming home late from work, and the last thing I really want to do is log in EQ1 and go to work again. Raiding every night is either stressful or boring, and grouping for experience is just boring so much that it puts me to sleep. The Serpent’s Spine brought back that most hated of game mechanics, the Experience Grind. Grind for the AAs, grind for the Mark II spells, grind to make enough money to pay for the crafted armors… it’s a beautiful expansion but I just can’t take the grind anymore. It isn’t fun! ...

EQ2: Waiting for Godot

The English Lit nerd in me wanted to try an experiment… What would a play be like if it were performed in EQ2? I wrote up the first scene of “Two Gentlement from Firiona”, but found a lot of Shakespeare’s puns and wordplay didn’t work in text. Shakespeare is too complicated, anyway. I chose to start with a simpler play, one with only five characters in it, and for much of the time, only two. And so, here are the first few lines from Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot”, as performed by the Crossroads Players… Verd as Estragon, and Vladimir playing himself. ...
