Octomini Project Day 2: Primed and Ready

I’d really wanted to talk about playing in the new EverQuest server today. I took a day off from work to play EverQuest and watch the SpaceX rocket take off with two American astronauts from American soil. Neither happened. I guess the weather just wasn’t quite right for either. It wasn’t a total loss. It was still nice to spend an unexpected day with my boyfriend. We went to the local game store, which opened early for us. We were the only ones there. I bought a very small paint brush and a couple vials of paint; Kasul bought a couple of discount games. The person working there didn’t know when they’d be running Friday Night Magic again. We were all of us wearing masks. I bought an Ikoria bundle just for fun. ...

Five MORE Ways You're Playing EQ Wrong!

Hey, don’t blame me – blame the incomparable Jeff Rimer… And you already have the title: 5 MORE Ways You’re Playing EQ Wrong. — Jeff Rimer (@Jeff_Rimer) May 23, 2020 The newbie zones on Mangler, the previous “True Box” TLP server, are as full as they have been since the server went online a year ago; filled with people getting ready for Aradune’s launch this coming Wednesday. They’re setting up their guilds, rolling their new mains, and getting up to the start of the race, toes on the starting line, waiting for the gun. I know the feeling – I’ve been doing the same for a week now. ...

Five Reasons You're Playing EverQuest Wrong (and Five Ways You're Crushing EQ!)

Is this a bad post title? I’m really working on making engaging content, and I’m told it all begins with a great thumbnail and a killer title. I heard that the best way to get a response on the internet is to tell someone they’re doing something wrong, so… This post isn’t about clickbait headlines, I promise! Our ramp up to the new Time Limited Progression (TLP) servers continue. Kasul and I both downloaded the latest maps, so those are ready. Kasul also made a new troll shaman and ran him over to Nektulos Forest, where we plan to meet up and XP as a shadow knight/shaman duo. ...

Am I Witchy Enough For You?

Since I finished Octopath Traveler a few weeks ago, I’ve been looking for another really decent RPG in which to lose myself. My boyfriend had several suggestions: Persona 4, DragonQuest XI, or the Witcher 3. Now I’ve seen the Netflix series, so I kinda know the characters. When there were still places called “libraries” that people could go to, I’d borrowed the “Blood of Elves” Witcher book, which takes place after the events in the Netflix series. ...

EverQuest Mangler trial run: Levels 7-14

Kasul and I spent a good few hours yesterday on our Mangler characters, getting ourselves and our computers ready for restarting on Aradune in a couple of weeks. It was classic EverQuest. In FFXIV, you could be kicked out of a group for not pressing enough buttons, fast enough. It’s a frenetic experience. If you’re not pressing a button, you are not contributing in FFXIV. I haven’t played WoW in a very long time, but one of the common complaints from WoW folks restarting on FFXIV is that the FFXIV button pushing isn’t as fast as they’re used to. ...

Making Bank in EverQuest: Day Zero

I kid. I don’t know how to make any money in EverQuest, and I never did (but read on, I do have a strategy). You have me down here, and then you have people who know what they’re doing up there, and all I can do is just look up in wonder. Opening day for Rizlona and Aradune is coming up, though, and I need to have a plan for what I am going to do from the start, day 0, hour 0, minute 0, seconds 1 and counting. ...

EverQuest: Bones Everywhere.

I saw my bf running around in Nektulos Forest yesterday on his baby cleric, and just had to join in. When the Aradune TLP server drops in a couple weeks (May 27, same day that astronauts launch from the US since Space Shuttle Atlantis made her final trip), Kasul is going to be playing a shaman (probably a troll) and I’m going to be a dark elf shadowknight. We’d already decided upon a shaman/SK combo, and Kasul was excited to find out that Reddit agreed with us. ...

EverQuest is dead. Long live EverQuest! New games trying to capture EQ nostalgia are doomed.

I’ve been running around in an EverQuest Time-Limited Progression (TLP) server the past couple of days. Is there even such a thing as a new EverQuest player anymore?

Game Log: EQOA, DCUO, EverQuest, PCSX2

We’ve been getting into EverQuest a little here, and some perfect storm of the new version of the best PS2 emulator out there, PCSX2, EverQuest nostalgia (BF and I spent some time making new EQ characters on various servers and checking up on our older characters) got me wondering how the EverQuest Online Adventures fans were doing with their reboot, Project: Return Home. I’d never played EQOA when it was live for the PlayStation 2 – I was already playing actual EverQuest, and there was no way I would have the money or the time to play two of them. But when I saw the PS2 disk for sale in the local used game store, what the heck, I bought it. ...

MMO updates: Crowfall, EverQuest, Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon, DCUO

I apologize for the brief news on Crowfall. I’d meant to get deeper into the PvE, but while I was building up my kingdom in the creative mode, the test server came down and I moved on to other things. It’s been years since Chinese publishers ChangYou took over the Shadowbane IP, and eight or so since they released plans to relaunch it. Now, here in 2020, it looks like they are finally really relaunching the famed empire building, PvP MMO. Shadowbane was notable for the huge number of beast races available for play, as well as the EVE-like way armies could gather to siege or defend player-created cities. ...
