Improving EQ2's Appearance slots

EverQuest 2 allows you to do amazing things with interior decorating, one of the few, if not the only, MMO, that allows you so much freedom in designing your living space and that of others. Interior decorator is one of EQ2’s unofficial professions, but nonetheless, a lucrative one. Characters also have a somewhat more limited way of customizing their own appearance, through appearance armor. All the visible armor slots have corresponding appearance slots. Armor bits placed in the appearance slots overwrite the appearance of the actual armor. ...

EQ: The Bastion of Thunder

Because FRAPS conked out on me, and I didn’t notice until after. there’s no screen shots of our night in the Bastion of Thunder. No screen shots of our first, tentative pulls of the giants of the lightning wing. None of Niiko zipping around at bard speed, threading the monsters with song into beads of pwn. None of Mantis, trying to keep his warrior mercenary from breaking his own mezzes :) That was fun! ...

EQ2: The Loping Plains Haunted House. Scared yet?

Loping Plains hasn’t seen THIS much action since the Freethinkers threw that Christmas party and the Pumpkin-Headed Horseman barfed seeds and pulp all over Mayong Mistmoore. Everyone was talking about that for months. So anyway, Ettie and I head over to Loping Plains to see what’s up. Some goblin over in Freeport was talking up stuff about some “really cool” thing over there, “a lot of fun”. So I asked the gobber if, like, I was going to die or something. “No, no, no, you no die,” said the gobber. “Be fun, you. You just go graveyard there, fun time!” ...

How to start an EverQuest blog.

Be an EverQuest player of any level, experience, anything. This is the tough step. There is no step 2. Go to WordPress.com or Blogger.com and make a blog. It’s free. Hardest part is coming up with a name. I just went through EverQuest zones until I found one that wasn’t taken. I wanted Freeport or Qeynos :) Every couple of days, post about what you’re doing in the game. Just posting something like “We checked out Oceangreen Hills today. Now I can’t decide if I hate bears or zombies more.” is enough. That’s it. “Whole guild was down in the new Kaesora xping. Great drops. XP, not so much.” You don’t need to write a book or include a million pictures – unless you want to :) ...

EQ: Seeds of Destruction: Meet Caiffin, the Merc.

So this screen shot entirely contains my philosophy of life. I’m in this really stormy place, and I’m fighting for my life, but some souless minion is trying to save me, but he’s about to be eaten by a giant bear he can’t see, and there’s some huge guy with a “wide stance” lurking about, and someone not even in the screen shot keeping everyone alive. That’s it. Now you know everything important about me. ...

EQ: Seeds of Destruction goes live!

Massively is reporting that Seeds of Destruction goes live today. Since I abandoned the high level game over a year and a half ago, closer to two years, I haven’t really kept track of EQ expansions. They tend to cater to the max level raiders with a zillion AA, and keeping up was just too much of a grind, so I quit and haven’t particularly missed it. The new stuff is more of the same – grind levels to 85, and then, here’s some more dungeons for people at the level cap. I took a peek at the new stuff with my cleric, just running around, and it’s totally gorgeous – and I STILL had no desire to play my cleric again. Almost two years and the burnout hasn’t faded a bit. ...

Will EQ2's Shadow Odyssey repeat Warhammer's mistakes?

The WAR bloggers are pretty united; they love scenarios, but people only appear to queue up for a couple of them out of all available. They love public quests, but if you want to do one, you pretty much have to get it started yourself. They love world RvR, but people would rather attack than defend. Mythic is hard at work balancing these things out, but, inevitably, this will lead to all new balance problems. ...

EQ2 and WoW, 2GETHA 4EVA

I went off to Amazon.com to pre-order The Shadow Odyssey so I could get that cool dire bear pet/mount (which will be claimed by Ettie, my 46 defiler), and halfway down the page, Amazon told me that people who pre-ordered the EQ2 expansion frequently pre-ordered Wrath of the Lich King at the same time. I wonder how many people play both games? I should be getting a free digital download of the expansion on my main account, since I went to Fan Faire and have gotten the Fan Faire cloak, so I’m in the system even though I attended on a press pass. I wasn’t sure about that. ...

EQ: Burning in the Plane of Fire

Doomfire, the Burning Lands Last night was another light night; by seven, there were only four of us on: Stolig, who had heroically leveled from 46 to 53 – just two levels from being able to enter the Plane of Storms for hot zone xp goodness; Kanad; Mantis and myself. Stolig only had an hour before real life would call him away, and was having fun further mutilating the mutilated, undead frogs of Lower Guk, so the rest of us were left figuring out what we could do. ...

EQ: Asleep in the Wakening Lands

We didn’t have enough people show last night to continue on the Lavaspinner’s Lair quests, but Nostalgia’s newest member, Stolig, a 44 Magician, was there and eager to kill something. So I logged back in to my necro, Tsukina, who I haven’t played since we were all hanging around Dulak, and we headed off to the level 40 hot zone, Wakening Lands, to do some armor bashing in the name of Nostalgia. ...
