I’d heard wonderful things about Shards of Dalaya, a game built on EverQuest’s assets (and using the EverQuest client) but with a different plot, zone names, zone connections and so on. SOE knows about it and turns a blind eye to it for reasons of their own. Nonetheless, even with the changes, Dalaya gives a fairly nostalgic look back to the simplicity and danger of old EverQuest, and though I realized I wasn’t as interested in the pure vanilla old school experience as I thought it was (half an hour to level 2? Madness!), the community is passionate and enthusiastic and active development on the game continues. ...

No matter how many times you tell the Bugbear that the guild isn’t raiding for his alt, he still rolls need on absolutely everything. The EQ2 Station Marketplace added a couple of new items today. The Bugbear joins the Kobold, Orc, and some creepy elves as the newest denizen of your apartment or guild hall. Personality-wise, Bugbear isn’t the best team player. If you’re not in his tribe, then you’re nothing. And if you DO happen to be a Bugbear – from his tribe – well, he’s more important than you, and the elders like him more, and they wanted him to have this thing. ...

Dina shows off the new Weapon Appearance slots and some Sootfoot Magma armor. If you want to make your own Sootfoot armor, you’ll need to do every one of the Sootfoot quests, the Far Seas Trading Company quests, and have your mining and fishing both at 190 or better, AND be able to craft some low level items. Sootfoot Armor is Tier 5. So it’s a bit of a commitment out the gate, but hey, cool looking armor is worth it. Always! ...

Flying over the newly redesigned Lavastorm on my elemental horse, I kinda feel a little like Santa, except if instead of riding Rudolph, Santa was riding a demon steed, and instead of flying over the North Pole, Santa was flying over the pits of Hell. If you go to the Plane of Time and enter the time rift that takes you to the Void, you probably have already seen Veeshan, the Queen of All Dragons and the discoverer of Norrath itself, hovering just out of reach, LAUGHING at you because we mere mortals are JUST THAT FUNNY. It was a sad day when the trolls discovered lawyers. I suppose that living in Freeport, they were bound to stumble upon some, sooner or later. The Dark Brotherhood, after all, is largely comprised of lawyers. Way back in December, SOE mentioned offhandedly that they would be adding a NEW server to EverQuest – the first since the two progression servers from a couple of years ago. A couple of days ago, while writing about the “Classic EQ Petition” that was going around, Egat mentioned in the comments that there was now a poll when you logged into EverQuest, putting it to the players what kind of server they wanted to see. ...
