EQ2: Levels for Platinum

"DM PLing" How the heck, you might ask, is a solo Arasai assassin in her 60s, no mercenary, no mentor, hitting dozens of at-level mobs while tanking thousands of points of damage and being continually self-healed? Welcome to the wonderful world of “DM Powerleveling”, an EverQuest 2 mechanism where someone creates a new character, levels it to 20 through normal ways, and then ends up, in a few hours, with a maxed out character. ...

EQ2: Ding 95! And just in time!

Scatterfall at 95/95/318 Dinged 95 Berserker on Scatterfall today. That’s the max level with the Chains of Eternity expansion. She’s also a 95 Carpenter, and has 318 Alternate Advancement (AA) points – two short of the max. Though she was boosted from 190-something to 280 when she hit level 90 and used one of the special potions that came with the expansion, so I DID cut some corners, there. I really wanted to finish with her leveling today; tomorrow starts the New Year’s double experience rush, and her having max adventure and crafting levels will give an additional 20% leveling bonus to every character on the account. ...

EQ2: Player Foundry -- goldmine or lost opportunity?

Player made Heroic Ornate Chest I’ve been told that the item designers set their own target price for these items. So… that changes this article somewhat. SOE has been touting an initiative to let third party item designers design items for their games – they’re calling it a Player Foundry. Designers submit fully textured 3D models of items to be sold in the SOE cash shop, and if accepted, they designer gets a cut of the proceeds; 40%, I believe. ...

EQ2: Going Mobile

Still to come: The lost art of smartphone photography A few days ago, I blogged about a little script I wrote that helped me price things for selling from the EverQuest 2 broker. It’s been invaluable in letting me wring the absolute best price out of the things I don’t need, especially, since I’ve been working on the gathering quests, all the hundreds of harvests I need to dispose of. For money. ...

EQ2: A Wish for Wings that Work

The very first creature Scatterfall talked to on her very first trip to the Overrealm was an annoying owl creature named Jabber who admonished her for her lack of wings, a real impediment in the Kingdom of Sky. But, I immediately protested, Scatterfall DOES have wings! They aren’t working wings, though. All they can do is let her hover slightly and glide a little. ...

EQ2: Myth me?

Fully myth'd It was a whirlwind holiday weekend. And the holiday to which I refer is Thanksgiving, NOT “Black Friday” or “Cyber Monday”. Thanksgiving, a time for family to come together, which mine did, and a time to eat a lot of food, which I did. The piggery continues with leftovers to this day. Since I obtained the Wurmslayer, I’d been working on the quest for my next weapon of note, my fabled epic weapon. The Ruins of Kunark expansion to the original EverQuest brought epic quests for powerful class-defining weapons, which received more powerful upgrades in the Omens of War expansion. Similarly, the EQ2 expansion Rise of Kunark gave two class weapon quests, a Fabled version that could be done by a single group, and a Mythical version that would need several raids to complete. ...

EQ2: Not gonna fight.

Haunted Diorama I just got this great idea for how to fix my “Haunted Diorama”, a display section of my Qeynos inn home that has a scarecrow and some spooky trees all waving back and forth, looking for a way out. I spent a good half hour last night trying to figure out how to make a wall with a window in it without using one of those custom home editors. I was making jigs to set things in the right place, then taking the jigs away, but positioning was still a bother. ...

EQ1: Where is that Wurmslayer, 11 years later?

Nashuya + Wurmslayer + Shield of Shadows After posting that ancient picture of my warrior, Nina, with the old EQ1 Wurmslayer, I got to wondering how it would look on her in new EQ, with the new(er) Luclin character models. Problem was EQ1 broke on me a couple years back and I uninstalled it. So, downloaded the free to play version. Nina was still in the Plane of Justice. Now, it’s been a long time, but I think she was doing the PoJ trials in a group seven or eight years ago, and I’ve only had her out for screen shots since. Anyway, she didn’t have WS on her, so I popped out to the bank in the Plane of Tranquility (still remembering how to get through the PoJ maze ftw) and nope, wasn’t there. ...

EQ2: Wurmslayered!

Take that, dragons! Problem with the epic weapon quests, the old ones from previous expansions, is that try as you might, you’re not gonna use that thing. Scatterfall was in her early sixties when I started it, crafting level 10. The adventuring level would be fine, if I were doing all this in a group. You’re kinda meant to do this quest, along with the Qeynos Claymore and others, while grouping up in the Kingdom of Sky. These quests all end at the final KoS raids, a much-anticipated cap to ten levels of work – KoS was the expansion that raised the level cap from 60 to 70. ...
