Follow up: Dungeon Siege with HD texture pack

I started replaying Dungeon Siege tonight… and man, I sure hope I don’t end up replaying all of the games on my “top five game series” list. It’ll take me years. Anyway, I downloaded the HD textures pack, but I can’t really tell if the graphics are really any higher resolution. They don’t really look any better than I remember. The textures pack came with a note that the optional second campaign, Legends of Alana (I think?), needed to be installed before these files were installed. I didn’t do that step. It’s getting late; tomorrow I’ll give that a shot. ...

Favorite Game Series #5: Dungeon Siege

A very large arachnid Inspired by posts from gamers on Twitter, I sat down and came up with a list of five game series that I really enjoyed enough so that another entry in the series would be a must-buy. I’m considering a series as more than one game that shares a title, so even a two game collection would be a series (say, for instance, Red Dead Redemption). RDR isn’t on the list, though, but it’s close. ...

Dungeon Siege 3: Polished, Simple, Short

It's a Mule's Life At a certain point in Dungeon Siege 3, you come across a dead mule. Tired, beaten and worn, it finally collapsed under the weight of heavy armor and weapons loaded onto it by cruel adventurers. In Dungeon Siege, earning the gold to buy a mule was a game-changer, allowing you to finally carry enough junk back to a merchant to earn gold for the good stuff. In Dungeon Siege 2, the mule could become a full member of your party, gaining levels and putting up as good a fight as any elf or human. ...

Guild Wars: Nightfall, Day 1

In search of… Ancient Erudites… When a bunch of the most knowledgeable people in MMOs suggest to me that I should probably look into Guild Wars because it sounds like I need something different, well, I buy the game. And yeah, even though the game could be best compared to Dungeon Siege II with massively multiplayer cities, I do consider Guild Wars an MMO. Every city, town, hamlet, guard post and quest hub I came to were filled with people, selling stuff, looking for groups, looking for escorts to far away places, offering 100% no fail inscriptions – it was alive in a way that only MMOs manage. ...

Bad article ideas: MMO Pinup Calendar

It’s been a little over a week since I started blogging over at Massively, and while I am really enjoying myself, I think I still have a lot to learn about story ideas. It’s all about the page views, right, and what brings in the eyeballs better than our dear old friend, porn. So I suggested this to the editors, and they pretty much informed me that they already had plenty of Second Life coverage, and maybe I could work on this piece about “Shoulder armor through the ages – how high is too high?”. ...
