Dragonspyre

My friend Michael Stormpyre and I were farming for grandmaster gear the other night. I was on my myth wizard, Marissa Spiritcaller, and I was getting a little frustrated by the awful nature of the higher level myth spells. My Minotaur and Orthrus spells did a trap-destroying weak attack before the now-debuffed main attack. Setting up an attack required casting two myth traps, two feints and so on, so that, having wasted traps on the weak hit, I would still have some left over for the main damage. Otherwise, I would be very lucky to break 1K damage on blades alone. ...

I don’t want to talk about Kraysys. But… five times! Five times I killed him last night. Add that to the dozen times or so I’ve killed him before, all but one of those times specifically to try for a chance at my Life school hat. No luck. My alt on the other account, Allison, won it once, not that it does her any good. We can share stuff between characters on one account, why not between all the accounts on the family plan? ...

Malistaire has gotten a really bad rep. Sure, he destroyed parts of Wizard City, stole the Krokonomicon from Krokotopia, plotted with Marleybone’s nefarious Dr. Katzenstein, nearly killed the Moo Shu Emperor, and teamed up with the Dragon Titan whose army destroyed Dragonspyre, but really. Can you blame him? Think of what Wizard City was like, pre-Death professor going berserk. “Oh, hello, new students. Here’s your wand. There are no monsters wandering the streets of Wizard City, so go about your business. Don’t worry about Professor Malistaire, he may seem gruff, but he likes puppies and loves his wife. If he should happen to go insane, I’m sure your experience never casting the one spell you have will be adequate to stop him.” ...

A funny little man dressed in green dragged me to my computer. “Log in! To Wizard 101!” he insisted. And when I started to do just that, he slapped my hands rudely from the keyboard. “No! Has it ever happened to you? You’re skipping merrily along some barren Dragonspyre (or Marleybone) street, and you see a sparkling silver chest sitting there in the road or behind a tower. You open it and are transported to a new mini-game that is over before you’ve figured out what to do? What the heck do you do with them? In many ways, this puzzle is like the train mini-game that everyone knows and loves as the easiest way to refill potion bottles, except here, instead of just rotating the tiles, you are sliding them around. ...

Norrath, the planet itself, wasn’t discovered by humans or elves or iksar or the ancient snake people or even the gods. It was discovered by the great she-dragon Veeshan, who chose this nondescript planet on which to raise her brood. She marked the planet with a swipe of her claws, claiming it as her own to all who could read her sign. Her brood, the First, and all their many descendants chose that event as their emblem, until the time when the awakened Sleeper, Kerafrym, tore the moon of Luclin apart, and in defiance of Veeshan, chose for his symbol, himself, curled in the same way, bursting the moon. Veeshan may have been content to leave her mark on some forgotten frozen continent, but Kerafrym’s mark would be laid across the entire SKY. ...

Just got an email from Mr. Lincoln, the fine-feathered tech contact for Wizard 101, about my troubles getting into Orin Grimcaster’s lair, the Fleshless Tower: Good Morning, Sorry that took so long! I have gone into your character and reset the quest. You should be able to get into the building now. If you still can not please let me know! Thanks, Mr. Lincoln Sounds like I have something to check out when I get home… Any other wizards in the same situation? Mr. Lincoln may be able to help.

Agh, I have SO MUCH STUFF TO TALK ABOUT! I won’t even get a chance to write about EQ2 today :/ Cool outfit, isn’t it? Total trash, aside from the boots which are a marginal upgrade from the Crowns boots I was wearing. The danger of dressing to kill is that it isn’t actually that much use in the actual killing. I was being torn apart by Forum mobs before I realized I did not have my fighting clothes on. OOPS. ...

Malistaire death number one, and counting. Killing Malistaire with the quest to kill him might actually just give you his robe; last night, Thomas got his, while his son’s character got a balance robe (not sure if it was the one Balance wizards would get), and I got an athame off of him. So either you get your robe first time, or the chances are even worse than I thought. This wasn’t my run, though – it was Thomas’. I was just along for the ride as we brought the story that started in Wizard City so long ago to its end. This is my week to be the “on call” developer at work, which means I carry the Pager of Doom and also have to go to bed early and get up early. PLUS, yesterday I had more dental work done and was in so much pain I drugged myself senseless and slept from the time I got home until 11PM. But there’s always casual MMOs to fill in the free hour here and there. ...
