Kickin' back with Raven We’ve been working on the T7 DCUO alert, Desecrated Cathedral, for a few weeks. The basic plot is that the demon Trigon’s miscreant sons are fighting over the scraps of their father’s power. Trigon’s not that interest in giving them any of it. HE wants to share his power with his daughter, Raven. SHE keeps waffling between being evil and good. When she’s good, she’s a member of the Teen Titans and stops robbers and stuff. When she’s evil, she is a psychic juggernaut who infects your dreams and is totally awesome. ...

Sinestro needs Hal Jordan's LUUURVE Team Spode kinda left GW2 and kinda went back to DC Universe Online over the past couple weeks. Apathy toward the upcoming GW2 expansion may have contributed. Many of the top Spodians had already finished all of the story and had grinded through the long process to make their marginally better endgame gear. Personally, I liked my Asura engineer fine. I didn’t find the group content very compelling, and upgrades had long stopped dropping for me, so the gear progression I enjoy stopped happening. The story chapters felt tedious. Most importantly, my role in a party seemed ill-defined. I much prefer games where I know what’s expected of me. Many people enjoy the sort of wild mixture of roles in GW2. I liked choosing my turrets for the night and focusing on placement and all that – playing my own mini-game while everyone else played theirs. I wasn’t sure I ever actually contributed, though. ...

New Valentine’s Day event for 2015 in SOE’s Daybreak’s #DCUO . In this one, tragic lover Mister Freeze has decided to take advantage of the invasion of Metropolis by the Star Sapphires to steal some of their amethyst crystals to power his freeze tech. Hey, cheaper than diamonds. Will he finally be able to rez his cryowife? Not if Star Sapphire Carol Ferris has her way. But, in the charming uselessness shared by most of DCUO’s iconic heroes and villains, Star Sapphire, with her magic ring and complete control over the emotion of LURRRRVE, must nonetheless ask four random players to help take down Mister Freeze, whose only power is his freeze gun. ...

DCUO: Thanks, Internet! Okay, I actually went so far as to look up a DPS build, put it in play, went back and soloed Mister Freeze. I didn’t even need a second orbital strike. It’s been a whirlwind few days since I mysteriously hit CR 106 and became eligible to play the newest endgame content in DC Universe Online. “Mysteriously” is the word. I’ve been at CR 105 (CR = Combat Rating, the gating factor for endgame content). The CR calculators we use showed that I was quite a long way from CR 106, a trip that would require a lot of upgrades and mods. Clever Clara sent me some mods that would help, but even with those, it would be a long stretch. ...

DCUO: Lantern No More Flush with the legendary infusion of station cash that came with the new month, I took the plunge and changed my power set from Hard Light to Mental. Blighted took me through the new loadout, and I was following a Mental Controller guide online at the same time, and wow – this operates so differently. The instant power jolt has a thirty second cool down; it was more like three seconds on hard light. However, that gives lots more time to do debuffs and stuff. My damage is still pretty low – and I think my power output is even lower than it was before. ...

Team Spode completed the Necropolis: Relics of Urgrund last night for the first time as a league, though I think most of the heroes of Team Spode had done it in pickup raids before (not me). The raid is kind of muddled; it all looks just as brown and dull as this screen shot. There are ancient “New Gods” weapons scattered around; DPS who can use those weapons grab them and use them at specific times to stop the bosses from powering up and using punishing attacks. I don’t think we did this very well, but the DPS who joined the raid had enough power to do the burninating and we got through it. ...

Was a huge night for Team Spode in #DCUO – the first night we had enough people on to do a couple operations and a raid without any pickup group members. Seeker Oeru (?), the rage tank on the left, joined us after leveling so very fast to join us. The others in the shot below are, continuing from the left, Stingheal, Lord Spode, Kaptain KY, Blighted Redeemer, TealLantern, Stingharm and Clever Clara, who is sporting a teal and white based color scheme as well :) ...

Kind of a disappointing night in DCUO, but kind of a good night as well. Subscribers get a small amount of station cash each month. I decided to spend August’s allotment on one of the new “slim” auras. Now, what I’d really like, is kind of like a boldish colored outline like you see in the Green Lantern cartoons, but when I got was a sort of puffy glow along my limbs. I already had the green aura (thanks, Sting!), so I got the slim white aura and color-swapped my costume palette to be teal-on-white. ...

Mister Miracle and his wife, Big Barda, are the only two Connecticut-based superheroes I know. When these locals needed help, well, they called on me for a little aid. When us Hartford heroes aren’t on alert for North Korean nuclear missiles (+), we’re available to help save the rest of the world, too. DCUO’s Halls of Power 1 DLC dropped yesterday, and Team Spode is already on the job. I haven’t actually done anything with it, yet – the Neverwinter contest is eating all my free time, lately – but intend to. I’d be surprised if the Intergang Operation wasn’t on our playlist this weekend. ...
