City of Heroes: Homecoming...
It’s probably been 15 years since I last played City of Heroes… and now it’s come back. Should I?

It’s probably been 15 years since I last played City of Heroes… and now it’s come back. Should I?

…and I’m ending it as I began it…

It’s creator appreciation week, and I’m appreciating the creation myths of the most popular MMOs in the world!

Here we go again. The top 38 MMOs in the last 30 days in the USA, as reported by Google Trends.

Finished! My PlayStation says I spent 39 hours in the game. I was taking my time at it, too, doing all the optional content, so this isn’t a speed run. Tactics Ogre Reborn came today, though, so I just went straight for the ending, which wasn’t all that far away. I can’t say much of anything about the rest of the plot. Some of the stuff that was telegraphed from the beginning of the game happened. Some stuff that I should have expected to have happen, happened as well. About the only thing that really shocked me was how easy the final battle was. But, I was max level (30), had superior armor and weapons, and most importantly – I had finally mastered Perfect Evade on Batgirl. Having played Elden Ring this past summer, dodging the well-telegraphed attacks here was cake. ...

Gotham Knights is the perfect game for Batman fans who want an open world game with a good story.

I haven’t played the Ship of Heroes beta in awhile, and I entirely missed the previous housing beta. I wasn’t going to make that same mistake twice; when I got the offer to join the superhero MMOs second housing beta, I signed right up and dove right in. To recap a little, Ship of Heroes is a superhero MMO that invokes the classic superhero MMO, City of Heroes – except instead of being set in a city, it is set on a giant spaceship, within which is a city. ...

And they call DCUO an apolitical, fictional game. Also, Dimensional Ink to rebalance clamped stats to make super heroes (and super villains) super again. In our reality, Washington D.C. is currently managed by the feds. The Hall of Justice is apparently in DC. Does that mean Superman and the Super Friends are de facto government employees? Batman is a G-man? Meanwhile, back at the Hall of Doom… We’ll find out in Episode 42: The Legion of Doom, which adds a new open world area to the game. Washington DC joins Metropolis, Gotham, Central City, Atlantis, Thanagar, Themiscyra, the 31st Century and so on. It’s unknown if DC will be reused as often as the first three, or if it’s doomed to be a one off, like the others. ...

DC Universe Online’s “House of Legends” expansion was meant to create a new game experience for both old heroes and new. It got halfway there. DCUO splits its players into two groups, and it’s not heroes vs villains. Heroes and Villains can group together now and complete the content together, and have been able to for some time. Most of the threats in DCUO now affect both hero and villain alike, and it’s probably not long before they can join together (if reluctantly) in the same super-league. It happens all the time in the comics and the cartoons. ...

I bought a new router and haven’t crashed in DCUO all night. Is everything good now? Did I fix the issue? I don’t have the slightest idea. More than that, I can’t know. Ever since the Hall of Legends update for DC Universe Online, I’ve had more or less success actually staying connected when I zone. I was on the phone with the techs at my ISP most of Saturday morning, and something they did seemed to clear it up, because I was able to play… Saturday. Sunday, no bueno. ...
