When my boyfriend was in the hospital for a procedure, I noticed that more than half of the nurses were wearing Crocs!

I hadn’t really thought much about the shoes – like Uggs, they seemed to be some sort of faddish, ugly footwear that inexplicably got popular somehow. They’re plastic, garish, cheap. Shoes – good shoes – are none of these.

I asked a nurse why everyone was wearing Crocs, and she said they were just the thing for standing for a long period of time.

I filed that bit of info away.

We had a family gathering; my grandkids, the twins, both had a set and they looked really comfy.

When I’m going to cons, or gaming tournaments, there’s a lot of walking and standing. My Nikes aren’t comfortable that long; my sandals and boots, same. My running shoes are for running.

I had to try Crocs.

Especially since they had Pikachu Crocs.

Going to a gaming convention… wearing Pikachu Crocs… would be like cosplay, maybe.

So I bought a pair – not the Pikachu ones. I bought a really cheap, gaudy pair, and I wore them for the Malifaux tournaments. Saturday was nine hours of standing. Yesterday was three. No foot pain. I didn’t really feel any need to sit down.

Better than barefoot!

I did order the Pikachu Crocs, and those came today. I also ordered little Bulbasaur and Charmander charms to go on them, just for fun.

Retroworld Expo is this weekend… I’m ready. I’m at an age where I no longer care what people think of me. Bring on the Crocs.
