I haven’t written much about our adventures on the Aradune server in EverQuest largely because we haven’t had very much time to adventure on the Aradune server in EverQuest. Our experience has been the same as everyone else who wants to sit down and play a video game for a little while. You start up the game and then find out how many hours it will be before you can play that game. Usually it’s two to three. Then when that magic moment comes and you can log in – and you have no warning that it’s coming – you have some small amount of time to choose a character and enter the game before you’re tossed out into the login queue once more. I’m always looking for a good F2P game to play for awhile. I never stay with them for long. They tend to follow a similar pattern of providing a lot of enjoyable, entirely free game before essentially locking you out of playing the game as much as you’d like unless you start paying money. That’s usually when I uninstall. Some F2P games, like Final Fantasy Brave Exvius and Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms were enough fun that I spent some money on them (in the case of FFBE, a lot of money over the couple years I played). I don’t mind supporting F2P games I enjoy – their developers need money, too. I just mind when the cash grab becomes a real blocker to play. ...

Last year for my birthday, Kasul got me a huge, mysteriously heavy box and refused to say what was inside. Anticipation was killing me. When my birthday came, I opened it up and it was absolutely full of Fantasy Flight Games’ Game of Thrones, the Card Game stuff. The base game, custom card holders for each noble house, every expansion, box after box of stuff. It was more than a little overwhelming. We were, at the time, working our way through the Gloomhaven main campaign and didn’t have time for new games. I’d really wanted to talk about playing in the new EverQuest server today. I took a day off from work to play EverQuest and watch the SpaceX rocket take off with two American astronauts from American soil. Neither happened. I guess the weather just wasn’t quite right for either. It wasn’t a total loss. It was still nice to spend an unexpected day with my boyfriend. A week or two ago, I went to Hero Forge and downloaded 3D models of two of my Octopath Traveler minis, Olberic and Primrose. I’d fixed Olberic’s sword to resemble the one he used in game a little better. Primrose is a mini we haven’t seen before. I thought they’d be fun to fiddle with, maybe learn how to paint. EverQuest was down all yesterday, so I didn’t have a chance to continue my doomed quest to finish my SK’s bone mail armor. But that was fine – I had the Witcher waiting for me. First step was to find those bard song and character model mods I mentioned yesterday. I couldn’t get them working last night, but this morning I went back and carefully followed the instructions, and yay! When I load up the game, I hear “Toss a Coin to Your Witcher” on the main menu. When load the save, there’s Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia looking back at me. I can’t wait until we finally meet up with Yennefer to see how she looks. ...
